B23

70–100

Yellowish brown (10YR5/4); heavy clay; pH 9.4.

Management considerations
  • Texture contrast between surface (A) soil and heavy clay subsoil (B21). May well have been a Vertosol now with added surface material
  • Alkaline profile, slight decrease at depth. Higher levels of sodium, magnesium and salts at depth
  • Limited depth of Surface soil, susceptible to sheet erosion. Compaction susceptibility of upper subsoil
  • Strongly sodic below upper subsoil, higher dispersion
  • Occasional sporadic bleached subsurface soil
  • Midslope, moderately well drained site drainage
