Soils of the Horsham Soldier Settlements

The "Report on Soils of the Horsham Soldier Settlement Project" was prepared by J.K.M Skene of the former Department of Agriculture in 1959. It relates to an area of about 1800 hectares several kilometres to the east of Horsham. This area was covered by a soil survey in 1953 as a preliminary to its subdivision for soldier settlement and development under irrigation. The land had previously been used for wheat cropping. This report describes the soils in the area.

More recent mapping and soil descriptions in the Wimmera Irrigation Area is also available on this website.
