Seacombe (Sm)
 | Aldrick et al (1992) included most of these soils under the Seacombe and Clydebank (Component 2) land system. Geology Holocene deposits (Qrd and Qrm - see Geology and Geomorphology) associated with both dunes and sand sheets on plains with some swamp deposits. Landform Low longitudinal dunes with intervening sandy swales and swamps. |
Dune soils
Limited observations but the surface soils are generally dark grey to dark greyish brown sands. With depth, the sands become light yellowish brown (10YR6/4). Some organic staining may occur at depth, particularly on lower parts of the landscape.
Swales
Many of the soils are similar to those described above except that subsoil colour is duller. Sands may also overlie grey clays.
Land use
Most of the area is National Park but some is grazed.
