Type F

Type F is a grey heavy textured soil, confined to some small swampy depressions along the western boundary. Its original gilgai micro-relief has been largely obliterated by cultivation and grading.

Typical Profile

The surface horizon is a dark grey (10YR4/1) light clay, about 15 cm thick and with fine rusty root channel mottling. The horizon varies more near the edges of the depressions, where it includes lighter textures and an irregular and discontinuous bleached subsurface (A2) horizon just above the clay. It rests on a grey (10YR6/1) or grey mottled clay. The clay is heavy and intractable and may contain small pockets of light grey, coarse textured material down to a depth of 37 cm. A grey (5Y6/1) or yellowish grey, more friable clay with small amounts of calcium carbonate comes in at 90 cm.
