Locality:

7221-507594. One kilometre north of Portland North.

Access:

Track adjacent to the Portland-Ararat railway line off Westlakes Road.

Geology/Geomorphology:

"Softwood" Swamp is a comparatively undisturbed wetland that originated as a basalt sag into a sinkhole developed in limestone of the Heytesbury Group.

Significance:

Regional. This is a clear example of the process of swamp development.

Management:

Grazing access to, and drainage of the swamp should be prohibited.
