25.4 Marengo Terrace - Swell Point to Storm Point

Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. Location:25-305035. One kilometre southwest of Marengo.

From Great Ocean Road.

Ownership:

Crown land and private land.

Geomorphology:

This coastal sector shows clearly several features related to higher Pleistocene sea levels. A coastal terrace backed by a distinct scarp extends south from Marengo and terminates as a bluff or a low cliff. Abandoned boulder beaches are prominent at several places.

Significance:

State. This is one of the more obvious but complex higher sea level sites on the Otway coast and has not been researched in detail.
