18.10 Skenes Creek Shore Platform - Dinosaur Footprints

Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. Location:18-354098. Near the mouth of Skenes Creek.

Access:

Great Ocean Road.

Ownership:

Crown land.

Geology:

A report supported by photographs, to the National Museum of Victoria describes markings in the Lower Cretaceous sediments which have been tentatively identified as dinosaur footprints. The site has not been located by palaeontologists and may be temporarily obscured by sand.

Significance:

Unknown. If the rock surface is re-exposed and the footprints are verified, then this could be a site of National Significance.
