Cluster pine (Pinus pinaster)

Potential Distribution

Scientific name: Pinus pinaster Aiton

Common Name: Cluster pine

Status: Not declared noxious in Victoria.

Habitat: A pine of low-lying, coastal plains, which grows well in mineral soil (sand dunes) near the sea-shore, although is adaptable to most soils (Bodkin 1990, Farjon 1984). Tolerant of drought and maritime exposure (Plants For a Future 2001b). Of principal importance is its ability to establish and regenerate in the absence of fire and other forms of disturbance (Corbett 1991). Cluster Pine invades heathland and heathy woodland (Carr et al 1992).
