Scientific name: Melianthus comosus Vahl

Common Name: Tufted honeyflower

Status: Declared Noxious weed. The Agriculture Victoria website has information about the noxious weed classification of this species.

Habitat: Subtropical regions where it grows on heavier soils and exposed sites (Parsons and Cuthbertson 1992). It was originally promoted as an ornamental species but has become naturalised in few areas of Victoria (Parsons and Cuthbertson 1992). Tufted honeyflower is a weed of pasture-land and can also invade watercourses (Parsons and Cuthbertson 1992).
