Land Capability Studies

A number of land capability and suitability studies have been completed by previous Government departments that are relevant to horticulture. These include:
Identification and preliminary risk assessment of prime development zones in the greater Melbourne area for recycled water use. Prepared by the former Department of Natural Resources and Environment in 2002, this report investigates potential areas in the greater Melbourne region.

Land suitability for selected horticulture crops in Victoria (1999) prepared by the former Department of Natural Resources and Environment in 1999. This report identified land that could potentially support sustainable crop production by meeting broad plant production requirements, in conjunction with protection of the natural resource base. Broad statewide suitability maps were prepared for potatoes, carrots, cauliflower/broccoli, lettuce, asparagus, sweet corn and tomatoes.
