General Land Unit Description:
There are numerous plains throughout the survey area of predominantly Black and Grey Vertosols. At the published scale only the major valleys with these soils on their plains have been delineated. The dissection of the basalt plains by stream channels ranges in depth from very shallow to deep and are characterised by the presence of almost vertical valley walls. Black Chromosols and Sodosols and shallow Black Dermosols occur on the slopes above the level of the parent material of the adjoining plains. Black and grey clay soils are commonly found on terraces and backplains.

A1	0-15 cm	Very dark grey (10YR3/1) light clay, cracking surface condition, pH 5.2, clear transition to:

B21	15-40 cm	Dark grey (10YR4/1) heavy clay, strong blocky structure (20-50 mm), pH 6.8, gradual transition to:
B22	40+ cm	Grey (10YR5/1), heavy clay, strong blocky structure (20-50 mm), pH 7.4.
