Abstract:

Quartzose sandstone overlying granite.

Access:

Clinton Rocks Track.

Ownership:

Crown Land (Croajingolong National Parl)

Geology:

Granite rocks outcrop at the shoreline along a distance of approximately 1 kilometre. They are overlain by up to 20 metres of bedded and consolidated red and brown quartzose sands. Details of the stratigraphy of this deposit are difficult to determine due to extensive slumping on the cliff face, but the material probably represents a Pleistocene episode of dune sedimentation.

Significance:

Regional. The sedimentary material differs from any other that is exposed on the East Gippsland coast. The lithology and stratigraphy have not been investigated in detail.

Management:

Coastal access paths should not be located across this outcrop. The existing track at the eastern side of Clinton Rocks provides suitable access to the coast.
