Mount Pugaree Fault Zone.

Abstract:

Faulted contract between Ordovician and Devonian sediments.

Access:

Goolengook Road - Puggaree Road.

Ownership:

Crown land.

Geology:

Road cuttings on the Goolengook - Puggaree Road exposure steeply dipping, thinly bedded and highly contorted Ordovician slates, shales and sandstones, which are faulted against Devonian conglomerates. The contact between the Devonian and Ordovician is, however, obscured.

Significance:

Local. Exposures of the faulted Ordovician sediments are uncommon in inland areas.

Management:

Maintenance of clear faces on the road cuttings would enhance the significance of the site, and may expose the Ordovician-Devonian contact.
