Abstract:

Folding of Buchan Group Sediments together with surface karst features and caves.

Access:

Moons Road.

Ownership:

Private land.

Geology:

Buchan Caves Limestone is exposed adjacent to Moons Road where it is characterised by extensive surface karst development. Near the head of Wilsons Creek, Buchan Cave Limestone is again bought to the surface in an anticline which is well exposed on the northern slopes of the creek.

Significance:

State. This area contains classic examples of folding of the Buchan Group sediments together with important surface karst features. The cave systems have not been investigated in detail and may in future prove to be of higher than State significanced.

Management:

The significance of the area showing the folding is dependent upon the maintenance of a clear display of the feature. Any activity which will obscure or remove the feature should be avoided. The incomplete nature of research in this area makes it impossible to formulate specific management prescriptions.
