Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. Taravale Formation outcrop in Old Paddock Creek.

Abstract:

Exposure of Taravale Formation.

Access:

Old Hut Creek Track.

Ownership:

Private land.

Geology:

Taravale Formation, although widespread in the Bindi area, is generally poorly exposed. Typical exposures consist of hillside runs of boulders which contain tabulate corals, stromatoporoids and
Receptaculites. The best exposures of Taravle Formation occur in the lower parts of Old Paddock Creek where think interbedded mudstones and nodular limestone outcrop. The exposures are poorly fossiliferous.

Significance:

Local. Clear exposures of Taravale Formation are uncommon in the Bindi area.

Management:

The Taravale Formation is exposed in the creek bed and eroded channel side banks. Erosion prevention measures in this section of the creek bay reduce the exposure.
